Pam was one of four children born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to an Air Force mechanic and a nurse. Her family traveled around on American Military bases before settling back in Denver, Colorado when Pam was 14.
Majoring in pre-med at Metropolitan State College, Pam came in second runner-up in the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.
Pam was diagnosed with cancer in 1988 and given 18 months to live, and although she recovered, this experience had a profound effect on how she has chosen to live.
Pam Grier has been a major African American actress since the early seventies.
Her most famous role of the 90s was probably Jackie Brown (1997) , directed by Quentin Tarantino , which was an homage to her earlier 70s action roles, the most well known of which is Foxy Brown (1974.)
Currently, she plays Kit Porter in Showtime's lesbian series, The L Word.
