Christina Aguilera spent
much of her childhood in Wexford, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh. When
she was 5, her father, an Ecuador-born Army sergeant named Fausto
Aguilera, separated from her mother, Shelly Kearns, a former Spanish
translator. (Ms. Kearns remarried in 1992; Ms. Aguilera has a sister,
a half-brother, a stepbrother and a stepsister.)
At age eight, Christina appeared on
Star Search, at ten she sang the National Anthem for the Pittsburgh
Steelers and Penguins, and then, at twelve, she joined the ensemble
cast of The New Mickey Mouse Club. When that show ended two
years later, Christina performed in places as far flung as Tokyo,
Japan, and Brasov, Romania.
In early 1998, after finishing some
demos and shopping for a record deal, Christina auditioned with a
tape made in her living room to sing 'Reflection' for Disney's animated
film Mulan, which resulted in a Grammy Nomination for the song
and a contract with RCA for Christina. Her self titled debut album
was released to rave reviews and Christina subsequently went on to
win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

"I can't really picture me doing anything
else besides what I am doing now. I don't know, but something funny.
I always wanted to work the window at a drive-thru fast food restaurant.
I always thought it was a cool thing to do."
Christina Aguilera's second album, "Stripped," is to be released
in October: wiser, and with an answer to Eminem. "The whole vision
for this record was to be really raw and real, just really baring
who I really am."
